The 2018 football World Cup in Russia was a roaring success for the UK. Although…

It’s a fairly quiet Friday night across Europe’s elite leagues, but the Belgian Pro League serves up a fascinating battle as Gent look to get their title challenge back on track at home to Lokeren.
The hosts could go temporarily level on points with leaders Club Brugge, but it won’t be easy against a resilient away side. After sitting through the boredom of last Friday’s clash between Bologna and Juventus, this one should at least offer more drama.
Bring it on!
Gent To Bounce Back In Style?
After clinching the first title in their history last season, the champions have seen their defence fall off the rails in recent weeks. However, Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s men will be confident about sealing vital three points here, and will be looking to their forward players to achieve it.
The hosts have won nine of 13 league matches at the GHELAMCO Arena this term, notching an impressive 31 in the process. With the likes of Sven Kums and Laurent Depoitre scoring goals for fun this term, they should fancy their chances against a side that’s conceded 17 on the road.
Gent’s recent misfortunes could be partly down to their involvement in the Champions League, but their return leg with Wolfsburg is over a week away. With their focus firmly on clawing their way back into the title race, we should expect a big performance from the hosts here.
The Buffalo’s haven’t lost to Lokeren in 17 meetings. If they perform to their potential, they should have no problems on Friday night.
Lokeren To Cause An Upset?
The visitors have been terrible on their home patch this season, but Georges Leekens’ side have performed better on the road this term and will hope to continue that against the champions.
Lokeren might boast 19 points from 39 on the road, which isn’t bad at all. Sadly, their recent form hasn’t been particularly good and they enter this clash having failed to win in six attempts this calendar year.
Three of those matches did end in draws, though, and they have enough reasons to be optimistic against the stuttering hosts. If they can unleash Ayanda Patosi in the attacking third, then they’ll have every chance of leaving Gent with something.
Whatever happens, it should be a thrilling spectacle and you can watch the action live with Bet365.
Gent v Lokeren Betting
The champions are firm favourites for Friday night’s encounter and are priced 1/3 with Bet365. Meanwhile, the bookmaker has priced Lokeren at 17/2. Alternatively, the draw can be backed at 15/4.
Gent cannot afford to think about Wolfsburg and must focus on this clash. An early goal would settle their nerves. If they do manage to get that early breakthrough, they should og on to claim a routine win.
There’s always a chance they could concede, but we’re confident about backing them in the attacking third and fancy a goal in either half.
Drama is our expectation and we do fancy seeing goals. Quite frankly, a big performance from the hosts could see them score three or four. Meanwhile, the visitors should be relatively optimistic about increasing their tally of 17 on the road.
Over 3.5 goals at 13/8? It’s certainly a risk, but it would be great to see it come in, especially if there’s money on it.
