Wednesday see’s the last of the Champions League group games. Some teams are playing dead rubbers, some require specific results, and some wish they weren’t even playing as they are already eliminated from the competition. We’ve looked through Wednesdays fixtures and have created our accumulator banker.
Manchester United to beat Basel is our first selection.
The Red Devils haven’t performed fantastically so far in this competition, but know exactly what they have to do against Basel.
Encouragingly, United looked back to their best against Aston Villa at the weekend, and although winning only 1-0, were sleek and stylish and will take great confidence into this game.
Basel have performed very well and their fans must be proud to still be in the hunt in a tough group, but the occasion may be a bit too much for them against an in form United.
Next up we are on Napoli to do the business against Villareal.
Villareal are absolutely dreadful this season, and have no reason to be in the Champions League.
Woeful in the Spanish League and pointless in the Champions League, Napoli should be able to wrap things up pretty easily, which will in turn eliminate Manchester City regardless of their own result.
There aren’t a huge amount of games on Wednesday, so our accumulator banker becomes a treble banker. It would be pointless adding a random game just to make up the numbers.
Our final selection for the treble is Lille to beat Trabzonspor.
Lille know that only a win will do if they are to progress, while opponents Trabzonspor will be looking to do exactly the same.
Lille have not yet won at home in the CL this season, but this appears to be the easiest of their home ties.
The French club have lost only once in their last 20 home league matches and are currently 3rd in the French League.
We anticipate an open and attacking game, with Lille making home advantage, and an extra touch of quality count.
