Bundesliga football returns on Friday night and both Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg will be desperate to start the post-international break run in style.
While the hosts are looking to close the gap on the Champions League places, Wolfsburg are trying to keep their slim hopes of Europa League qualification alive. Only a win will do for either side, and that should lead to a fascinating battle between these two great sides.
And you can watch the drama unfold with Bet365 streaming.
Can Little Pea Inspire Victory?
Roger Schmidt’s side might not be thrilled with their current position of sixth in the Bundesliga, but they did win each of the last two games leading into the international break and could move into the Champions League qualification zone, at least on a temporary basis, with three points in Friday’s massive contest.
The fact they also fell out of the Europa League between those two fixtures could work in their favour as it allows the hosts to focus their attentions on this domestic job. If they are to rescue their campaign, then there’s a very strong chance that Javier Hernandez will be the man to save them.
Chicharito has been fantastic since joining from Manchester United, netting 14 goals in the league. Overall, Bayer boast 20 in 13 home games, so their main man could be the key to success. Nevertheless, the support of Hakan Calhanoglu and Christoph Kramer could be crucial too.
This has been a testing season for Bayer, but a big result against Wolfsburg could be the catalyst to fire them to a top four finish. It should be an electric atmosphere to say the least.
Wolfsburg Out To Save Their Own Campaign
Like the hosts, Wolfsburg are a little short of where they’d like to be now. However, like Bayer, a win on Friday night would close the gap to where they want to be and pile the pressure on those playing later in the weekend.
Unfortunately, Dieter Hecking’s men have been particularly poor on the road, winning just two of 13 matches and scoring only 11 times in the process. With 21 conceded in the process, a trip to an in-form Bayer won’t sound too promising.
That’s not to say this team is void of quality, though. Bas Dost, Max Kruse, Andre Schurlle and Julian Draxler are all capable of turning it on while Wolfsburg also picked up a 2-1 win in the reverse clash earlier this season.
On their day, the visitors can produce quality, the problem has been doing it on a regular basis. But if they do it here, we could have a phenomenal game on our hands. In addition to the drama, we’ll be looking to win some bets too.
Bayer Leverkusen v Wolfsburg Betting
There’s not too much to choose between these sides, but with home advantage on their side, Leverkusen are the favourites at 10/11 with Bet365. The bookmaker make Wolfsburg 3/1 outsiders while the draw is priced 5/2.
Both teams need the win, but the impetus is with Bayer, particularly at home. If they can pick up from where they left off before the break, then they should have more than enough to see off their visitors.
Wolfsburg’s poor away record could mean that a fast start puts Bayer well in the driving seat. We’re backing the hosts on a HT/FT result.
We do think that there will be goals, and can see Wolfsburg scoring in spite of their poor away form. However, the quality of Leverkusen’s attack could be too strong. We’re backing a 14/1 shot for the correct score.
Like our first selection, a 0-0 would result in a refund from Bet365. Hopefully, we won’t need it.
