Premier League Darts 2016: Week 3

Thursday 18th February. 7PM. Sky Sports 1

Week three of this year’s Premier League darts sees the action head to Dublin, which guarantees a cracking atmosphere. Looking at the schedule, the drama at the oche won’t be too bad either.

After dropouts in each of the first two weeks, this is set to be the first week where all 10 players take to the stage. Two matches in particular have us salivating at the prospect of what’s in store, and we wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

Let’s play darts!

MVG V Adrian Lewis In Frantic Contest

Following a disappointing week one loss to James Wade, Michael van Gerwin bounced back with a thumping 7-3 win over defending champ Gary Anderson in Newcastle. MVG also won the Dutch Masters on Sunday night so should be extremely confident in Dublin.

However, he might not have things all his own way against Adrian Lewis. Jackpot clinched a 7-4 win over Dave Chisnall last week to maintain his perfect start and will be hoping to make it three from three. Lewis loves playing against fellow fast-throwers too, and we should expect an explosive encounter either way.

If both players find their feet early doors, we could see a lot of high scores and checkouts. It has the potential to be one of the best games of the first phase, and we can’t wait to see what happens. Prepare yourselves for a classic.

Will Current King Beat The Daddy?

The night’s other huge clash sees current champion Anderson take on six-time winner Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor in what should be another fascinating affair.

Taylor was poor in week once but bounce back with last week’s incredible 111 three-dart average and 7-1 win over Wade. Anderson wasn’t great in his loss but should be back to full health after missing week one.

Elsewhere in Dublin, Michael Smith simply has to break his duck as he takes on Chisnall. The young debutant is already three defeats from three after doubling up on week one in Anderson’s absence. Meanwhile, Wade is also paying his fourth match after having two last week. The Machine opens the night against Peter Wright.

The final match of the night sees Robert Thornton take on Raymond van Barneveld. Will the Thorn make up for last week’s absence with a win, or will RVB punish him in the same way that Chizzy did in week one?

Premier League Darts: Week 3 Betting

Last week, our double became a winning treble after Thornton’s withdrawal, and we’re looking to pick up another single this Thursday night with a bet on the big match between Lewis and MVG.

On their day, either man could hit half a dozen 180s over the course of a race to 7. If that happens, we’d fully expect the other to chip in with at least two. The fast-throwing players often bring out the best in each other, and we’re hoping to see that here.

We’re staying with Betfred for our accumulator too. This is because they will offer a refund if only one selection lets us down.

All matches could go either way, which it makes it so exciting. But here are our predictions for Dublin.
