Newcastle United set sights on Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat

Newcastle United have set their sights on Dutch right back Daryl Janmaat after identifying him as the man to replace Mathieu Debuchy who will join Arsenal in their major shake-up.

Janmaat is still currently in Brazil representing Holland in the World Cup and looks likely to take part in the third place play-off match against Brazil this coming Saturday.

The 24 year old currently plays for Feyenoord and has done so since joining on a free transfer from Heerenveen in 2012. In the past two seasons he has been an ever present domestically playing 63 matches and scoring 5 goals.

Janmaat is seen as a consistent performer without any real star studded attributes – similar to the style of play once represented by Gary Neville. This may not entirely please the Toon faithful as it is unlikely Daryl Janmaat will be able to offer the same style of performance as Debuchy who was very direct with great attacking intent.

Daryl Janmaat has also been linked with Manchester United as have the rest of the Dutch squad since Louis Van Gaal’s appointment. It has been reported that a bid of £4 million was made but Feyenoord are looking in the region of approximately £7 million to let him go.

With only a year left on his contract they may need to get whatever they can for him before he leaves on a free.
