Real Madrid v Bayern Munich – Bavarians Could Be A tough Nut To Crack

What further motivation does a team need that has the opportunity to play in the Champions League Final on their very own ground? That is the carrot dangling in front of Bayern Munich as they prepare to face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, after winning the first leg 2-1. Avoiding defeat there is easier said than done, but Bayern are the epitome of solidarity, and will be very much prepared for the Real Madrid onslaught.

Mario Gomez’s last minute winner gave them the upper hand in this two legged tie, but a number of missed opportunities from the German striker prevented the German giants from taking a commanding lead to Madrid.

Real seemed content with the draw in Germany, and after grabbing the equaliser early in the second half, were on the back foot for the remainder of the match, and eventually punished by Bayern.

Jose Mourinho will obviously instruct his players to press forward and take the initiative in the home leg, and we know just how devastating they can be, but Bayern have a solid and decisive back line as well as the likes of Ribery and Robben who can cause severe damage on the counter attack.

Real Madrid come in to this game after a tough match with Barcelona at the weekend which they won well, but Bayern Munich were able to rest a host of players when taking on Werder Bremen, due to the fact that that they are unable to catch Borussia Dortmund in the title race, which could prove to be invaluable recovery time.

That said, Real Madrid have been devastating at the Bernabau this season, scoring 4 or more goals on 16 occasions, 4 of these in the Champions League.

But Bayern are made of stern stuff and I’m predicting that they can get at least a draw out of this game. Real’s pressure to score could give Bayern the opportunity to score on the break, and the Spanish giants tend to just outscore opponents rather than keep clean sheets, which could play into the German’s hands.
