Premier League Darts 2016 Live: Week 5 Preview & Betting

Thursday 3rd March. 7PM. Sky Sports 1

Last Thursday’s action in Aberdeen was absolutely incredible as Michael van Gerwin recorded a record-breaking three-dart average. More importantly, we landed a huge 36/1 accumulator. If week five in Exeter can match that drama, then we should be in for another phenomenal night.

Ten of the world’s best players take to the oche once more to provide five mouth-watering best of 12 legs matches. Let’s play darts!

Can Jackpot Stop The Power?

Week five of this year’s Premier League action begins with an incredible prospect as old friends Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor face off in what could be a fascinating battle. Both players have picked up six points from their opening four matches, and a victory here would put the winner firmly in the driving seat as the race to finals night heats up.

Taylor has been in particularly strong form in recent weeks, bouncing back from an opening day defeat to Raymond van Barneveld to win three on the spin. Last week, he ended the night with more maximums than anyone, hitting an incredible seven 180s against Dave Chisnall and he will be confident ahead of this clash too.

Lewis certainly won’t roll over, though. An incredible fightback against James Wade last week underlined the two-time World Champion’s ability and strength of character. If he can find his rhythm early, there’s no reason he can’t at least clinch a point.

Whatever happens, it should be a thrilling encounter to get the action started.

Smith In ‘Must Win’ Territory

Having doubled on week one, debutant Michael Smith has already played five matches in the tournament and sadly has just one point to his name. With only four games left until the first cut off, the St Helens youngster has to pick up some wins, starting with victory over Van Barneveld.

Barney certainly won’t be easy as he looks to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Gary Anderson. With the pressure on both players, it should bring a stunning climax to the night.

Elsewhere in Exeter, leader Peter Wright could be in for a night of disappointment as he takes on the almost unstoppable MVG. The Dutch master is winning a lot of UK Open events at the moment, as well as posting incredible scores in the Premier League. You wouldn’t want to miss this contest for the world.

Reigning champ Anderson continues his revival against Robert Thornton, who will be hoping to follow up last week’s first point of the tournament with a shock first win. Meanwhile, Chizzy takes on Wade with both men knowing that a win could see them climb into the top four.

Exeter expects, and so do we. Prepare yourselves for another thrilling night of drama.

Premier League Darts: Week 5 Betting

From a betting perspective, last week’s 36/1 acca was incredible. It means that we can have a punt on all 15 nights (we left night one to get a taster) and know that we’ve doubled our money at the very least.

With Betfred also offering refunds if only one result lets us down, it would be rude not to get involved once more. Here are our week five selections.

On a side note, we’re also liking Bet365’s offer of 10/3 on over 1.5 nine-dart finishes in the tournament. With 11 weeks to go, there’s more than enough time for this to happen, especially with the way MVG and a couple of others are performing right now.

As for week five, though, our main single comes is for the Dutchman to take out a checkout of over 108.5 against Wright. MVG already boasts the highest checkout so far with a 167. Expect him to hit another big finishing score here.
