Leicester City vs Watford Championship Play Off First Leg

watford v LeicesterOur first glance at The Championship play-offs comes on Thursday evening as Leicester host Watford at The King Power Stadium.

The home side scraped into the play-offs on goal difference thanks to a 91st minute strike from Anthony Knockaert giving them the 3 points against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Though they probably deserve this after the season they’ve had, their recent form has been by no means consistent as this victory was only their 3rd in 15 games in the league; hardly the form of Premiership material.

This fixture marks the 2nd time that the 2 sides have met at Leicester in just over 3 weeks with Watford picking up a 1-2 win here towards the end of April.

This victory will come as no consolation for Watford though as their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Leeds on the last day of the season meant that automatic promotion slipped from their grasp, having to settle for 3rd place and a passage via the play-offs to reach the Premier League. This was their 3rd loss during their last 5 games of the season and with defeats at the hands of struggling Millwall and Peterborough, Zola’s men can only blame themselves for their current position.

The Hornets picked up more points away from home (39) than any other side during the Championship season.

The bookies make Leicester slight favourites to qualify for Wembley at 4/5 whereas Watford are Evens. Given that the final day of the season was one of celebration for the The Foxes you can understand their slight advantage going into this important game.

Despite suffering heartbreak on the last day, The Hornets have done the double over their counterparts this season and won on this ground only a few weeks ago. The 5/2 with Sky Bet is a great price for Watford to repeat this feat in The Midlands this Thursday evening and if you’re looking for any sort of value then backing Udinese Reserves is definitely the way forward.
