Frankel confirmed for Newbury outing
Frankel will be among the hopefuls lining up for the JLT Lockinge Stakes in Newbury’s Saturday schedule, and with an unbeaten record, the colt is likely to be a firm favourite.
Sir Henry Cecil’s wonderhorse has beaten all opponents so far, raising the question of whether he really might be unbeatable.
However, after a recent injury, the playing field might be a bit more level than usual at Newbury – and an upset could prove lucrative for those willing to bet on an outsider.
British-trained Frankel is currently the world’s highest rated racehorse, with a score of 135 – seven points clear of three equal-second rivals.
Australia’s Black Caviar, French-trained Cirrus des Aigles and Germany’s Danedream all rank at 128 points in the official worldwide standings, with the rest of the top ten all trained in Britain or Ireland.
Frankel has been making headlines for some time, but it was his performance in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes that secured his position at the top of the rankings for 2011.
Now heading into four-year-old races, it’s time to see if Frankel can continue the unbeaten record that has earned his place in the global standings – and potentially become one of the all-time greats in the process.
Time will tell of course, but maybe horse racing history is currently being written.
