Caen host Marseille on Tuesday evening in this intriguing Coupe de la Ligue clash. Defending cup holders Marseille will be expected to progress to the next stage with the minimum of fuss, and Caen will be looking to change their fortunes after their exit from the Coupe de France just last weekend.
Caen were eliminated by Ligue 2 side Troyes 4-2 after extra time on Saturday, causing a rather embarassing exit from the country’s premier cup competition.
The current form of the home side is dreadful, not winning since the beginning of November in any competition and gaining just 2 points in their last 6 games.
Now sitting in 14th position in Ligue 1, Caen will need to find some inspiration soon as they are just 2 points clear of the relegation zone.
This competition however looks to be some light relief for struggling Caen. They beat Brest 3-2 in the first round followed by an away win in extra time at Auxerre in the 2nd. Marseille may just be too strong for them this evening though.
Defending Coupe de la Ligue champions Marseille have turned their season around after their dreadful start to the league campaign which saw them win just 1 of their first 10 games this season.
Collecting 13 from a possible 15 points in their last 5 games has seen them climb up to 6th position in the league, although they will have their work cut out if they are to catch PSG who are currently 9 points ahead of Marseille and topping the league table.
Coach Didier Deschamps has his team in good form, and after their 5-0 mauling of Paris Red Star in the Coupe de France last weekend he will want to carry the form into both this game and the tough league fixtures Marseille have over the next month or so.
From a betting perspective Marseille do look a very tempting investment at 21/20 with Bet365. Caen have been in dreadful form, while Marseille look the best they have done all season.
